Norkram Ltd - recycling thread protectors to help the Oil Industry cut costs and reduce damage to the environment.

Norkram Recycling

The problem of disposing of the dirty thread protectors is a major headache to the oil and gas companies around the world.

The simplest, most economical and environmentally friendly solution to the protector problem is to 'recycle' the refurbished thread protectors back to the steel mill for reuse on new casing and tubing

However, until the oil and gas companies and the steel mills adopt this simple policy then the protector problem will only increase.

Another option to solve the problem is to recycle the thread protectors back to their original materials: plastic and steel.

The machinery used for recycling.

Norkram have invested in the equipment to carry out this process, namely;

a guillotine to separate plastic from steel, in composite protectors,

a shredder to reduce high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to 20mm chips,

a granulator to further reduce the chips to 7mm.

This process is labour intensive. The thread protectors have to be thoroughly cleaned. After separation of the steel and HDPE the plastic is wiped to remove any remaining traces of rust prior to shredding.

The steel is then processed as scrap, while the HDPE chips are reused by plastic manufacturers.
